SUSTAINABILITY — WHAT IT IS ITS ROLE IN LAW AND POLICY? AND HOW IT CAN HELP BUILD A BETTER, MORE EQUITABLE FUTURE?

February 8, 2022 @ 11:00 pm - February 10, 2022 @ 12:00 am

In this four-hour session, we will study a unique and rapidly growing area of the law. We will look at what it means to be “sustainable” and how to integrate “sustainability” and “sustainable development” into law and policy. Where most areas of the law are often narrow, pre-defined, and ridged, for example, the study of business law or water law or criminal procedure –sustainability applies across substantive areas. It is applicable in almost all areas of law. Throughout the session we will look at how it cuts across disciplines by exploring numerous successful and unsuccessful examples of how the law impacts social-ecological systems. By the end of the session, attendees should have a better understanding of what sustainability and sustainable development are or can be and how they can be used in law and policy to create a more environmentally-friendly and equitable future.
