Building Food Security and Sovereignty through Local Zoning Codes

October 15, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Watch a recording of this event here

Event Description:

How can local policymakers increase access to nutritious food? In partnership with Vermont Law School’s Center for Agriculture and Food Systems (CAFS), the team at the Sustainable Development Code (SDC) scoured zoning codes across the U.S. to find out. From encouraging urban apiculture and agriculture, to proliferating grocery stores and farmstands, to mitigating the harms caused by CAFOs and pollutants, the team has outlined nearly 40 recommendations—supported by dozens of case studies—to bolster food security and sovereignty in local communities.

Join SDC Director Jonathan Rosenbloom and CAFS Director Laurie Beyranevand on October 15, 2020 from 1-2 p.m. ET to learn more about this new resource. Moderated by CAFS Associate Director Lihlani Nelson, the duo will discuss how local policymakers can remove code barriers, create incentives, and fill regulatory gaps to build more equitable and sustainable local food systems.
