Dual Degree Programs at VLGS
Through partnerships with like-minded institutions, Vermont Law and Graduate School students enhance the impact of their VLGS Masters or Juris Doctor degree with an advanced degree in business, environmental law, and policy, energy regulation, environmental management, or global business management from another leading institution.
Dual Degree Opportunities
JD/LLM in French and European Union Law
University of Cergy-Pontoise – France
Through a special exchange agreement between Vermont Law and Graduate School and the University of Cergy-Pontoise, students earn both a JD and an LLM by spending two years of study at Vermont Law and Graduate School and one year at Cergy-Pontoise.
JD/MPHIL in Environmental Policy
University of Cambridge – England
In partnership with the University of Cambridge’s Department of Land Economy, VLGS combines its Juris Doctor program with Cambridge’s Master’s of Philosophy programs in Real Estate Finance, Environment Policy, as well as Planning, Growth and Regeneration. This three and one-half year program moves students from VLGS to Cambridge and then back to VLGS.
JD/MPHIL in Planning, Growth, and Regeneration
University of Cambridge – England
In partnership with the University of Cambridge’s Department of Land Economy, VLGS combines its Juris Doctor program with Cambridge’s Master’s of Philosophy programs in Real Estate Finance, Environment Policy, as well as Planning, Growth and Regeneration. JD/Master I & II
University of Cergy-Pontoise – France
Both the JD/ Master I and JD/ Master II DJCE programs are designed for students with a mastery of the French language who are interested in pursuing a career in international law and policy, whether involving work in the United States or abroad.
JD/Masters of Environmental Management (MEM)
Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies – New Haven, CT
The JD/MEM degree with the Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies enables students to earn both degrees in four years. JD/MEM degree candidates may “share” the equivalent of twelve credits between the two programs. Applicants to this program must apply separately to, and be accepted by, both Vermont Law and Graduate School and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
JD/Sustainable Innovation MBA
University of Vermont – Burlington, VTThe one-year Sustainable Innovation MBA (SI-MBA) is designed for students seeking to make an impact by blending business and law. VLGS students are guaranteed admission into the SI-MBA program and UVM SI-MBA students are guaranteed admission into the VLGS JD, Masters, and LLM degree programs. (Guaranteed admission is contingent on meeting entrance requirements.)
LLM/Sustainable Innovation MBA
University of Vermont – Burlington, VT
The one-year Sustainable Innovation MBA (SI-MBA) is designed for students seeking to make an impact by blending business and law. VLGS students are guaranteed admission into the SI-MBA program and UVM SI-MBA students are guaranteed admission into VLGS’ JD, Masters, and LLM degree programs. (Guaranteed admission is contingent on meeting entrance requirements.)

Application Process Roadmap
Yale School of Forestry
Applicants interested in programs with Yale may apply to VLGS and the partner institution at the same time, or apply to the partner institution during the first year of law school. ABA requirements dictate that entering students begin the JD portion of the program first.
University of Cambridge
- D/MPhil in Real Estate Finance
- JD/MPhil in Environmental Policy
- JD/MPhil in Planning, Growth and Regeneration
Dual degree students at Cambridge are selected based upon their performance at VLGS. The application processes take place during the first or second year of law school.
Students must apply separately to and be accepted by VLGS and the University of Cambridge for admission to each element of the program. Applicants to the dual degree program must be approved by VLGS before applying to Cambridge. Application to the University of Cambridge will ordinarily occur during the fall of the student’s second year of study at VLGS.
University of Cergy Pontoise
Dual degree students to Cergy Pontoise are selected based on their performance at VLGS. The application processes take place during the first or second year of law school.
Quinnipiac University of Law School
JD students at Quinnipiac can earn any of our three master’s degrees by taking one summer of classes at VLGS, pursuing a summer master’s externship, taking an online class, and sharing credits between the two degrees.
Grossman School of Business at the University of Vermont
- LLM/SIMBA
- JD/SIMBA
Students admitted into the UVM-SIMBA program are guaranteed admission to Vermont Law and Graduate School’s JD, LLM, or Masters Programs contingent on meeting certain entrance requirements. A current LSAT score and Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report from LSAC is required to apply to the JD program.
University of South Carolina School of Law
JD students at South Carolina can earn any of our three master’s degrees by taking one summer of classes at VLGS, pursuing a summer master’s externship, taking an online class, and sharing credits between the two degrees.
University of South Dakota School of Law
JD students at South Dakota can earn any of our three master’s degrees by taking one summer of classes at VLGS, pursuing a summer master’s externship, taking an online class, and sharing credits between the two degrees.
