Biography

Ryan Kane is an Assistant Attorney General in the Environmental Protection Division of the Vermont Attorney General’s Office. The bulk of Ryan’s work involves civil enforcement against violators of Vermont’s environmental laws and regulations. Ryan also assists with other civil litigation or appeals to the Vermont Supreme Court on behalf of the State of Vermont as needed to support the work of the Attorney General’s Office. Prior to working for the Attorney General, Ryan spent just shy of three years at a small general practice law firm in Montpelier, where his work focused on land use and environmental law, utilities law, and appeals. There Ryan handled multiple appeals to the Vermont Supreme Court and a two-week trial before the Vermont Superior Court, Environmental Division on a Clean Water Act Section 401 appeal. Ryan is a regular presenter of Administrative and Environmental Law CLEs for the Vermont Bar Association. Ryan clerked for two years with the Honorable Judges Thomas Durkin and Thomas Walsh of the Vermont Superior Court, Environmental Division. He earned his BA in Philosophy from Wheaton College, Massachusetts and his JD summa cum laude from Vermont Law School. He is thrilled to be a part of the VLS community again.
